I take back all of my rants about caller id. It can be useful.

(Slightly longer story -- Dave was out hiking today, and I didn't know when he was getting back, but around 10:30pm, I started to worry a little. There was a message on the answering machine from 7pm that somehow I missed (I was home, and not even playing video games at that point.) It was clearly Dave's voice, but there wasn't one intelligible word, and the tone sounded potentially agitated. So I called the caller ID back. Turns out he just called (using someone elses cell) when reception was spotty but not completely non-existant. And then the call cut out, so I still don't know when he's getting home, but he's not lying on a mountain trying to get help via cell phone or some such thing.)
